CA Technologies officially announced the launch of their highly anticipated CA AppLogic 3.0 release. ScaleMatrix has built its cloud offering on the CA AppLogic platform and continues to provide the highest levels of service, training, and AppLogic integration for our customers. ScaleMatrix has taken part in the development and testing of the 3.0 beta and played an integral roll in this release. The hours of testing and development have proven to be invaluable when learning about the new capabilities of this version of AppLogic.

 Our entire team is excited about the launch of CA AppLogic 3.0. Having the ability to use VMware inside the AppLogic environment will turbo charge the adoption rate of this amazing platform. It will allow Enterprise CIO’s to leverage their VMware investment while simplifying cloud computing and lowering overall costs.”

Some of the functionality in the new version of CA AppLogic remains untouched while other major changes include the replacement of ALDO with the new GUI driven Backbone Fabric Controller or BFC for short. It allows you to manage multiple grids, in addition to providing power management for the servers within a grid, as well as grid setup and patch / hotfix maintenance.

Although there are many areas of improvement, ScaleMatrix will most greatly benefit from the availability of 1) VLAN support 2) Role Based Access Control (RBAC) 3) Bandwidth Metering and 4) Support for the VMware Hypervisor.

  1. vLAN tagging to further enable private networking and VPN;

    “The ability for CA AppLogic 3.0 to allow VLAN tagging support enabling private networking for multi-tenant hosting on a shared grid is an amazing new feature that will really change the way MSPs can go to market.”

  2. Role-based user access to further separate observers, operators, admins and owners access levels and to improve security.
  3. Bandwidth metering gives us the flexibility to have several billing models, if we choose to. Tiered billing can be in place for high consumption users while fixed billing options can be provided to clients that have set requirements that do not change often.
  4. VMware support enables CA AppLogic 3.0 to run with more than one hypervisor within a grid. So, not only do you get to use the Xen hypervisor, AppLogic now supports VMware ESX Server v4.0 update 2. You also have the ability to import OVF-based images (Open Virtualization Format) to provide for the migration of existing workloads from other platforms. This option allows companies that already have a investment in VMware to continue to use their product licensing while bringing the power of AppLogic to their business.
