Organizations to host events, raise awareness to promote more STEM leaders in Southern California

SAN DIEGO – March 23, 2017 –ScaleMatrix, a hybrid service provider delivering an array of cloud, colocation, managed services, data protection and connectivity options under one manageable umbrella, and Athena, a San Diego-based business organization championing women executives and rising managers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), announced today its partnership to promote more female STEM leaders in Southern California.

The organizations are defining this new initiative in several ways, including holding two events over the next week: The CTO Power Panel on March 23 and the Pinnacle VIP Reception on March 30.

“ScaleMatrix is proud to be the leading cloud and data center service provider for Southern California’s massive technology, life science, bioinformatics, and genetics community,” said Chris Orlando, co-founder of ScaleMatrix.  “With science and technology becoming increasingly intertwined, we are extremely excited to announce our new partnership with another industry leader, Athena San Diego, who will provide tremendous expertise, mentorship, and community resources to our growing Life Science and Technology Launch Center ecosystem.Through this relationship, Athena will become an official part of the Launch Center advisory committee.  The committee will help shape the future growth of this new community resource and provide resources and mentorship to the Launch Center community members.”

The March 23 CTO panel will feature powerful women discussing emerging tech trends and the opportunities, experiences and challenges they have faced in their leadership roles. Participants will include Ashley Van Zeeland, CTO of Human Longevity, and Linda Lannen, CIO of Kleinfelder.

The March 30 Pinnacle VIP Reception will incorporate a pitch competition among five female-led startups from UC San Diego’s Rady School of Management’s mystartupxx accelerator program. Attendees will receive the book, “Cook the Part: Delicious, Interactive and Fun Team Cooking," written by Karin Eastham, a member of Illumnia’s Board of Directors and the 2016 Pinnacle Chairman’s Award winner.

“It’s truly an honor to work with ScaleMatrix,” said Constance Maples, Chairman of Athena's Board of Directors. “Our members include entrepreneurs of life science and tech companies, who all benefit from gold-standard professional and personal development programs. They, as well as future female STEM leaders, will greatly benefit from industry partners such as ScaleMatrix. Collectively, we will impact positive change on the innovation landscape.”
